National Centre for Groundwater Management, University of Technology, Sydney (UTS)


The National Centre for Groundwater Management is a specialized unit within UTS that runs postgraduate degrees in Groundwater Management. It was transferred from University of NSW. The business model relies on consultancy and contract research to supplement income from teaching. My duties were to undertake teaching, research, consultancy and community service activities to support the strategic plan of the Centre.

  • Manage and conduct multi-disciplinary research into the hydraulics, hydrochemistry and microbiology of water well deterioration due to well biofouling and corrosion. All mainland water agencies and the Land and Water Resources and Research Development Corporation jointly funded the research. It had a budget of $330,000.   
  • Liaise with staff from Water agencies across Australia and conduct field-based investigations.

Rockwater Pty Ltd is a small consultancy firm of engineers and geologists who specialized in groundwater supply and mine dewatering projects. My work duties included the supervision of drilling, well construction and test pumping personnel; the hydraulic and hydrochemical evaluation of fractured rock and alluvial aquifers; water well design; geophysical logging and report writing.

My work duties were undertaken as a part-time employee while I was engaged in post Graduate study at UNSW. My duties focused around supporting groundwater-modeling activities through data preparation, operating the models and then formatting modeling output.
