48349 Structural Analysis

The subject covers methods and concepts, which are fundamental to the analysis of structural frameworks. Students learn to analyse statically indeterminate structures using both the Force based Method as well as the Moment Distribution Method. Students will also learn how to use influence lines to find maximum load effects. An introduction to non-linear analysis of structures is also given to prepare students for understanding the Limit-States design concepts, which they may encounter in professional practice and in other Structural Design subjects.

The content covered includes:

 Qualitative Analysis of Structures

Principle of Virtual Work & Calculation of Elastic Deformation

Analysis of Statically Indeterminate Structures using the Force Method

 Moment Distribution Method

Influence Lines of Statically Determinate Structures

Introduction to Non-linear Analysis of Structures
