Program PLANTPLANT is a special purpose program for PLastic ANalysis analysis of 3-dimensional steel frames and has been used extensively in research and consulting. The software has features for analysing the static and dynamic response of 3D frame structures subjected to material nonlinearity and gross deformations including large three dimensions rotations. Effects of warping of members with thin-walled cross sections are considered. A deformation controlled algorithm based on the method of Orthogonalised Load-Deformation States enables a stable iteration throughout the pre- and post-buckling domain. The correctness of the software has been verified using a wide range of published examples as well as laboratory experiments. PLANT was developed by Saleh [1], Stutzki [2] & Lopetegui [2] at the Institute of Steel Construction, RWTH-Aachen. An interactive version of the program was developed by Saleh under the name SIGMA.
