UTS:Engineering Undergraduate Scholarships

UTS:ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIPS

The Scholarship Program is not only designed to provide financial support, it also promotes your development as a future leader in engineering through partnerships between the university and engineering industry. You will have the opportunity to meet industry leaders early on in your career and establish relationships with them.

There are four types of scholarships that you can apply for:

Engineering Cooperative Scholarships

There are up to 20 industry sponsored scholarships available from UTS:Engineering each year. These scholarships are not available for a combined degree.

International Studies Cooperative Scholarship

This scholarship is available for the Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Arts in International Studies combined degree. It is not available for all majors.

RTA Full Degree Scholarships

An RTA Full Degree Scholarship provides you with financial support for the full duration of your studies in the Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), Diploma in Engineering Practice (5 years full time). You will complete both your internships with the RTA. These scholarships are available for the Civil Major only and not available for a combined degree.

Engineering Equity Scholarships

There are three Engineering Equity Scholarships available. These scholarships provide you with financial support if you have experienced long-term educational disadvantage/financial hardship due to any of the following:

> Personal illness/disability

> English language difficulty

> Rural or isolated school

> Difficult family circumstances

> Indigenous Australian

The Scholarships available in this category are:

> Linden Little Engineering Equity Scholarship which is available to all engineering students completing the Bachelor of Engineering, Diploma in Engineering Practice.

> Keycorp Engineering Equity Scholarship in memory of Gil Rintoul. There are two scholarships available to students completing the Bachelor of Engineering, Diploma in Engineering Practice with a major in Information and Communication Technologies Engineering.

RTA Rural Scholarships

In 2007, there were 20 RTA Rural scholarships made available to applicants for the Bachelor of Engineering, Diploma in Engineering Practice with a major in Civil or Civil & Environmental Engineering who resided in areas designated as rural/regional NSW. These scholarships may be offered again in 2008 subject to approval. Check the website for updates.

VALUE OF THE SCHOLARSHIP

Financial

The financial value of each Cooperative Scholarship is $12 000 tax free for one year (your first year). The RTA Full Degree Scholarships are valued at $48 000 tax free over five years. The Linden Little Engineering Equity Scholarship is valued at $24 000 tax free over two years. The Keycorp Engineering Equity Scholarships are valued at $5 000 tax free for one year.

Relationships

The real value of a UTS:Engineering Scholarship is the opportunity for you to meet, establish links and develop relationships with our industry sponsors facilitated by the Faculty during the first year of your degree. These early contacts often become supportive employers, interested in the development of your future. There’s no obligation on either side, so you can also retain the flexibility and freedom of choosing your own work opportunities during your internships and when you graduate (RTA Full Degree scholars will need to take internships with the RTA).

Students who are short listed will be invited to attend an interview in person on Tuesday 4 December (except Engineering Equity Scholarship applicants).

It is important that you are available during this week as interviews cannot be re-scheduled. Attendance at your interview is essential if you are to be considered for a scholarship.

* You are classified a Current School Leaver and eligible to apply for a scholarship if you have taken ‘gap year’ in 2007, following the completion of your HSC in 2006.
