entry into a UTS: Engineering degree. As Australia’s leader in
practice-based education and research, we will provide you with a
professionally-relevant education that is competitive within the
international context. We are, after all, ranked 83rd out of
10,000 engineering faculties worldwide*, and the number 1 engineering
school in Australia for our performance in teaching and learning.**
The links in this
section will provide information and services to you as a current
student – undergraduate, postgraduate coursework, postgraduate research,
or if you are studying by distance mode.

U@UTS - GOING TO UNI AND UNI LIFE
We realise that
starting university is an exciting experience and the beginning of a new
phase in your life. We also know that UTS is a big place, with a lot on
offer and a lot to do when you begin studies here – this can be a lot to
take in at once!
The U@UTS website
provides an overview of services and facilities plus support available
to students to make your transition to Uni life as easy as possible. We
strive to make your experience with us is positive in all areas – not
just study – but with admin, pastoral, social and sporting support as
well.
CURRENT SCHOOL LEAVERS
All new students are invited and strongly encouraged to attend O-Camp in
February. O-Camp provides an introduction to your course and life at
UTS, and more importantly, gives you the opportunity to meet fellow
students and to make friends. Students from previous O-Camps valued the
experience in getting to know their new classmates (so many new faces!),
and felt much more relaxed and confident about attending classes during
the first week of semester.
Full details will be provided by mail and
at the enrolment session, but preliminary information can be found
here. (Note: students commencing mid-year will be given the
opportunity to attend the camp during February following first
enrolment).
NON-CURRENT SCHOOL LEAVERS
You may be eligible for exemptions based on you previous study. It would
help if you could prepare a claim and bring it with you to the enrolment
session, along with supporting documentation (such as descriptions and
outlines of completed curses and subjects). You can
download the form we use for assessing advanced standing and it is
strongly recommended that you go through it, and decide what you would
like to claim before you come to the enrolment session. If you are an
undergraduate then you can find out which subjects you need to do by
looking at the course descriptions in the
handbook. Your exemption quota of credit points will be taken from
the electives component of the course if you don’t specifically request
and provide evidence for exemptions in engineering subjects
GENERAL INFORMATION
Maths and Physics
If you do not
meet the assumed knowledge requirements in mathematics or
physics, or have not studied these areas for some time you may wish to
enrol in a BRIDGING COURSE run during February. (Note: these courses do
not generally run mid year, however more information is available
here).
There is also
a 'gently-paced' option in Physics, which in effect spreads this subject
over a full year instead of concentrating it in one semester. This
offering commences in first semester each year. Students who are not
confident about their mathematics background might also consider
undertaking the subject Foundation Mathematics prior to enrolling in
Mathematical Modelling 1. Foundation Mathematics is a full semester
subject.
English
If you do not
meet the assumed knowledge requirements in English or you are not
confident about your English language skills you may undertake the
subject Language and Context of Australian Engineering (a 6cp elective)
before undertaking the challenging subject Engineering for
Sustainability.
New students
will be required to undertake a diagnostic English test and may be
required to undertake this preliminary subject if they do not meet a
minimum required level.
ENROLMENT FOR NEW STUDENTS
